You may be familiar with the terms blinds or shades but y<span style="background-color: white; font-family: OpenSans-Light; font-size: 16px;">ou may be wondering what the main differences are between each. </span></p><p><span style="background-color: white; font-family: OpenSans-Light; font-size: 16px;">What are the pros and cons of each? Here are a few tips to help you narrow down the selection process...</span></p><p><span style="background-color: white; font-family: OpenSans-Light; font-size: 16px;">Basically, blinds are window coverings made up of individual slats. They can be completely raised for an unobstructed view or, when lowered, the slats can be rotated to let in more or less light. Shades, on the other hand, are made from single panels of fabric or woven wood rather than slats, so they can only be raised or lowered to achieve light control and privacy. </span></p><p><span style="background-color: white; font-family: OpenSans-Light; font-size: 16px;">Blinds come in both horizontal and vertical slats or louvers and have the primary function of controlling the amount of light coming through.</span></p><p></p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; If you need help with ideas for sliding glass doors, or want to see any of these options in person, please contact us, we would love to help.<br />
<br />
I get asked constantly from clients how to cover sliding glass doors. There are actually a lot of options...<br />
<br />
<div style="border-bottom: medium none; border-left: medium none; border-right: medium none; border-top: medium none;">
There is the standard go-to of vertical blinds, which work really well for sliding glass doors. You can tilt the vanes as well as draw them open. </div>
<div class="separator" style="border-bottom: medium none; border-left: medium none; border-right: medium none; border-top: medium none; clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-0rKEUBkd9Us/TjwgJGdZ0HI/AAAAAAAAANI/cQ8E3D5mAV0/s1600/cadence_vertical_blind.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320px" src="https://4.bp.blogspot.com/-0rKEUBkd9Us/TjwgJGdZ0HI/AAAAAAAAANI/cQ8E3D5mAV0/s320/cadence_vertical_blind.jpg" t="" true="" width="256px" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="border-bottom: medium none; border-left: medium none; border-right: medium none; border-top: medium none; clear: both; text-align: left;">
But I must admit, when my clients ask the question it is usually, "What is there to cover a sliding glass door besides the typical vertical blinds?" So... I thought I would show you all some different options. </div>
<div class="separator" style="border-bottom: medium none; border-left: medium none; border-right: medium none; border-top: medium none; clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="border-bottom: medium none; border-left: medium none; border-right: medium none; border-top: medium none; clear: both; text-align: left;">
If you want a more modern look to the vertical blind. There are the Skyline gliding panels. I must say these are really cool. They traverse back and forth, but don't tilt open like standard vertical blinds. They are available in many different fabrics and screen shades depending on the amount of privacy and light control you want. </div>
<div style="border-bottom: medium none; border-left: medium none; border-right: medium none; border-top: medium none;">
<br /></div>
<div style="border-bottom: medium none; border-left: medium none; border-right: medium none; border-top: medium none;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-zDFd_glUBIk/TjwgNF0yoVI/AAAAAAAAANM/6vJbwml5n04/s1600/skyline_gliding+panels_3.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="256px" src="https://4.bp.blogspot.com/-zDFd_glUBIk/TjwgNF0yoVI/AAAAAAAAANM/6vJbwml5n04/s320/skyline_gliding+panels_3.jpg" t="" true="" width="320px" /></a></div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-BD9bbQ3HS6M/TjwgUYQJ1HI/AAAAAAAAANU/J64vv6z_v10/s1600/skyline_gliding+panels.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="256px" src="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-BD9bbQ3HS6M/TjwgUYQJ1HI/AAAAAAAAANU/J64vv6z_v10/s320/skyline_gliding+panels.jpg" t="" true="" width="320px" /></a></div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-VjKAxA4Bi0g/TjwgQvuyb3I/AAAAAAAAANQ/S0MqynjEnI0/s1600/skyline_gliding+panels_2.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="256px" src="https://2.bp.blogspot.com/-VjKAxA4Bi0g/TjwgQvuyb3I/AAAAAAAAANQ/S0MqynjEnI0/s320/skyline_gliding+panels_2.jpg" t="" true="" width="320px" /></a></div>
<br />
Then there is the Duette Vertiglide option. This reminds me a little of an accordion door, they slide back and forth on a top track and stack to just 6 1/2" no matter the width of the blind. That is great for someone with not a lot of wall space to accommodate a lot of stacking to clear the window completely. This product is also very insulating. <br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-6DyUt8p6rg0/TjwgYVBfmGI/AAAAAAAAANY/iMabc_eImn4/s1600/duette_vertiglide.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="256px" src="https://3.bp.blogspot.com/-6DyUt8p6rg0/TjwgYVBfmGI/AAAAAAAAANY/iMabc_eImn4/s320/duette_vertiglide.jpg" t="" true="" width="320px" /></a></div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-m9w-05UcZFU/TjwgbdGoQAI/AAAAAAAAANc/MUAtEB6cdAM/s1600/duette_vertiglide_2.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="256px" src="https://2.bp.blogspot.com/-m9w-05UcZFU/TjwgbdGoQAI/AAAAAAAAANc/MUAtEB6cdAM/s320/duette_vertiglide_2.jpg" t="" true="" width="320px" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
Of course you can always do drapery panels on doors as well. Push them off to the side when you want them open and close them when you need the privacy. Depending on the size or the door or window however, there can be a lot of fabric that can be bulky or heavy, so may not be a good option if you are going for more of a cleaner look. <br />
<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-Zhy14Dm-53A/Tjwgn69vfhI/AAAAAAAAANo/NWD7dluW5As/s1600/draperies+for+sliding+glass+door.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320px" src="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-Zhy14Dm-53A/Tjwgn69vfhI/AAAAAAAAANo/NWD7dluW5As/s320/draperies+for+sliding+glass+door.jpg" t="" true="" width="214px" /></a></div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-pkPPPOJ7wDw/TjwgrJuLi4I/AAAAAAAAANs/EM41lYuwN3o/s1600/draperies+for+sliding+glass+door2.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="194px" src="https://4.bp.blogspot.com/-pkPPPOJ7wDw/TjwgrJuLi4I/AAAAAAAAANs/EM41lYuwN3o/s320/draperies+for+sliding+glass+door2.jpg" t="" true="" width="320px" /></a></div>
<br />
The Luminette privacy sheer. This is an awesome way to combine the privacy and light control of a vertical blind and the softness and look of a drapery. Soft face fabric in permanently bonded to fabric vanes, offering full view-through and discreet privacy. <br />
<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-5TRTMCtpdgI/TjwhOqjHUEI/AAAAAAAAANw/Az6YjowU3OQ/s1600/luminette.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="243px" src="https://4.bp.blogspot.com/-5TRTMCtpdgI/TjwhOqjHUEI/AAAAAAAAANw/Az6YjowU3OQ/s320/luminette.jpg" t="" true="" width="320px" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
There is also the option of putting shutters on sliding doors. This is not my favorite option because of the room shutters need on the door, they can sometimes look bulky, and they will block a lot of your view/light, but if you love shutters and have them on other windows throughout the house, they could be a good option of you. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
There are two types of shutters options, depending on how much wall space you have or depth into the room. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Bi-fold shutters will fold off the window. This will allow you to open up the shutters more, but will be sticking out into the room the depth of the panels once they are folded off the window. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://3.bp.blogspot.com/-qT6K2THGW8o/XDZCeWpfipI/AAAAAAAAA58/ndbqzzzTCyonQfI5sNMSazj78ryU8DVEgCLcBGAs/s1600/Bi%2Bfold%2Bshutters%2Butah.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="534" data-original-width="1600" height="106" src="https://3.bp.blogspot.com/-qT6K2THGW8o/XDZCeWpfipI/AAAAAAAAA58/ndbqzzzTCyonQfI5sNMSazj78ryU8DVEgCLcBGAs/s320/Bi%2Bfold%2Bshutters%2Butah.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Bi-pass shutters will slide back and forth in front of each other, but if you don't have a lot of wall space for the shutters to rest at when open, then part, or at the most, half of the door will always be covered depending on how many panels you have. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://3.bp.blogspot.com/-NjkOYQLO-j4/XDZDInOgcjI/AAAAAAAAA6E/DhIHS3FMyIkhIiP3vMTjxyeqVepf503GQCLcBGAs/s1600/bi%2Bpass%2Bshutters%2Butah.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="450" data-original-width="750" height="192" src="https://3.bp.blogspot.com/-NjkOYQLO-j4/XDZDInOgcjI/AAAAAAAAA6E/DhIHS3FMyIkhIiP3vMTjxyeqVepf503GQCLcBGAs/s320/bi%2Bpass%2Bshutters%2Butah.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>

And don’t just think of gray as a solid, smooth color when you use it in design. Without energy-efficient window treatments, as much as 50% of a home's heating and cooling energy can be lost through its windows.</div>
<div>
<br /></div>

In winter months, your home heating escapes to the outdoors through your windows while in the summertime, the outside heat flows into your home through these same windows. With <a href="http://www.hunterdouglas.com/energy-efficient-window-treatments" style="background-attachment: initial; background-clip: initial; background-image: initial; background-origin: initial; background-position: 0px 0px; background-repeat: initial; background-size: initial; color: black; cursor: pointer; font-family: HelveticaNeueW01-65Medi, 'Helvetica Neue', Helvetica, Arial, 'Lucida Grande', sans-serif; margin: 0px; padding: 0px; text-decoration: none; vertical-align: baseline;">window treatments that provide insulation</a>, you can reduce energy consumption, save on heating and cooling costs, and create a more comfortable atmosphere</div>
<div>

The warmth provided by the sun, its solar energy, may be desirable during the winter to help heat your home, but in the summer, it can make a room overly hot and uncomfortable—driving up air conditioning costs. Many <a href="http://www.hunterdouglas.com/control-solar-heat-gain" style="background-attachment: initial; background-clip: initial; background-image: initial; background-origin: initial; background-position: 0px 0px; background-repeat: initial; background-size: initial; color: black; cursor: pointer; font-family: HelveticaNeueW01-65Medi, 'Helvetica Neue', Helvetica, Arial, 'Lucida Grande', sans-serif; margin: 0px; padding: 0px; text-decoration: none; vertical-align: baseline;">Hunter Douglas window fashions help to control solar heat</a> by allowing it into your home in the winter and minimizing the amount that comes in during the summer.</div>

If you want to block out as much natural light as possible, look for Hunter Douglas products designated with our highest Privacy & Light Control rating of 5. These products offer not only fabrics and materials with maximum light-blocking qualities, but they are uniquely designed to minimize light gaps, seams and rout holes such as the de-Light™ feature on many of our horizontal blinds. Window shades and blinds cannot completely eliminate incoming light as there are almost always slight light gaps. </div>

While every Hunter Douglas product allows you some measure of light control, some products offer more room-darkening benefits than others. A key consideration is fabric or material type and color. Sheer fabrics typically soften and filter sunlight, while semi-opaque and opaque versions almost completely block sunlight. We say “almost” because these fabrics and materials darken a room but do not entirely eliminate light. Fabrics and materials designated as “semi-opaque” (or a rating of 4 or higher) will offer you room-darkening benefits. </div>

It’s easy. Just add one home furnishing element,<br />such as a throw pillow, picture or chair; then repeat.</h3>
<span class="size14" style="background: transparent; border: 0px; margin: 0px; outline: 0px; padding: 0px;">Interior design elements that lend themselves to pairing include:<br />- Furniture, such as chairs, ottomans, end tables, even sofas<br />- Throw pillows and decorative towels<br />- Artwork hanging on walls or standing on tables<br />- Mirrors, lamps and light fixtures<br /><br />Pairs add flexibility too. You can easily move them to change the function of a room for a party or other event. And if you buy new furniture, a pair of items is easier to re-arrange in the same room or settle harmoniously into another room. Even when you move, pairs of home elements are more flexible to fit into a new house and new decor.<br /><br />The pairing concept can be applied to colors too. Selecting a color palette for your home with two complementary colors is an effective decorating strategy. For example:<br />- Brown and Ivory<br />- Indian Red and Sage Green<br />- Black and White<br />- Chocolate Brown and Powder Blue<br /><br />Let’s sum it up. One plus one is more than two in home fashions. Decorating in pairs makes a beautiful design statement.<br /></span></div>

They are classic, beautiful and timeless. I love white kitchens with a pop of color, especially in a Roman Shade over a window. You can do all sorts of fabrics and patterns, make it fun and add a pop of whatever color you want. Here are some examples of a fun Roman Shade to add some fun and color to a white kitchen.<br />

Decorating with aqua adds the<br />serenity of the sea to your home.</h2>
<h3>
Summer is the perfect time to add this delightful color.</h3>

<div>
What exactly is the color aqua? It's hard to define because aqua is a combination of blue and green and maybe a little gray or beige. The amounts of each hue can vary, and that's why aqua comes in so many different-and beautiful- shades, from the softest pale to quite bold. And that's why there are so many names for aqua, including aquamarine, teal, sea glass, cyan, turquoise and more. </div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
When you add aqua to your decorating mix, the feeling you achieve depends on the shade of aqua you select and the colors in your rooms. For a beachy vibe, add items you've collected at the seashore such as driftwood, shells, and natural grasses. For a more formal look, use aqua as you would any other accent color, with the formal, modern or eclectic accessories you like best. </div>
<div>
<br /> The color and design possibilities are varied for beautiful aqua accents:</div>
<div>
<br /><b>• Pair aqua with soft brown and tan, then add rustic woods and sea glass.</b><br />
<b><br />• Combine aqua with soft sand-colored fabric and paint, and add whitewashed<br />finishes and seashells.</b><br />
<b><br />• Put aqua together with crisp black and white - or softer chocolate brown and white -<br />or tailored dark charcoal and white.</b><br />
<b><br />• Team aqua with sage green for a fern garden feel.</b><br />
<b><br />• Mingle aqua with bright tomato red for a lively and energized atmosphere.</b><br />

The warmth provided by the sun, its solar energy, may be desirable during the winter to help heat your home, but in the summer, it can make a room overly hot and uncomfortable—driving up air conditioning costs. Many Hunter Douglas window fashions help to control solar heat by allowing it into your home in the winter and minimizing the amount that comes in during the summer.</div>

<br />
<br />
Whether you spell it grey or gray (I prefer the former), everyone knows this
color is a major player in the design field. Grey can land anywhere on the color
spectrum from cool and light to dark and deep, making it a hue that can stand on
its own or influence other colors in a room. <br />
<br />
On the lighter, cooler side of things, the color grey goes by names like
Silver Mist, White Stone, Cement, or Platinum. These cooler grey tones work well
as a grounding color to lighter pastels, making the whole look less sugary
sweet. Mixed with mid-toned shades, grey adds weight and a contemporary feeling.
Mixed with deeper toned colors, cool grey becomes more of a neutral background
color, almost disappearing as it steps aside for the deeper colors to take
center stage. <br />
<br />
The warmer, deeper greys work great with more saturated colors. Pewter, Steel
Wool, Stormy Grey, and Charcoal Grey are common names for colors in this deeper
toned category. I recently saw a fabric that used a combination of dark grey,
emerald green, and sunny yellow. The grey again became the neutral color, but
added a richness that a beige color wouldn't have been able to. <br />
<br />
We also see grey used to make colors more complex. For example, take the
color beige, add grey, and you'll get a delightful chameleon color that might
look taupey or beige/grey (otherwise known as greige). It all depends on what
you put with it. This range of colors is what I call transitional colors, and
they work well in hallways and spaces where you are transitioning from one
living area to another. Think of them like a bridge connecting one space to
another, where each might have totally different color schemes going on. These
more complex grey tones help neutralize without being bland or boring. <br />
<br />
Grey is also a wonderful color metalized—think of the shine of silver or
plated silver. In this instance, grey becomes more formal because of its sheen.
It's the same for platinum designed accessories mixed with crystal. They are the
height of elegance and formality. Pewter is another color in the grey family
that can add appeal. It is warmer than silver, but also more casual, which means
it can dress down a room but still add some visual interest with its subtle
sheen. Grey accessories like mercury glass are another way to bring this color
into your home. I love the glow of mercury glass candleholders and the various
shapes that are created from the light. <br />
<br />
Have you noticed the influence of grey on wood tones? From the furniture
market to the window covering industry, lighter wood tones take a cue from the
color grey. The look isn't an all-over grey finish, but leans more toward an
artisan look with some veins or slats that are grayer, while some others might
be more beige. This multi-toned approach has more variety to it across all sorts
of wood tones, and is a bit more palatable than the look of black painted
furniture, which can be quite stark. With the exception of dark woods (like
mahogany or cherry), grey is making itself well known. <br />
<br />
With the popularity of nickel and stainless steel in lighting, tile,
appliances, and accessories, I don't believe grey is going anywhere anytime
soon. <br />
<br />

The color of the year for 2013 is Lemon Sorbet, according to Benjamin Moore. <br />
</span><span style="font-size: small;">"It’s a perfect partner for the evolving palette of fresh pastels that will be favorite interior design colors in the coming year." <br />

This whispery, gentle tint is a soft, light yellow that goes well with just about every other color. It can tie together a lot of separate colors in a room, such as grays, purples, blues, greens, pinks and taupes, to make a pleasing, cohesive design statement. </div>
<div style="border-bottom: medium none; border-left: medium none; border-right: medium none; border-top: medium none;">

<div style="border-bottom: medium none; border-left: medium none; border-right: medium none; border-top: medium none;">
Color experts say that yellow makes us feel optimistic, happy, and looking toward a bright future. It also stands out from the colors that surround it, making us feel more energetic, and stimulating creativity, memory and good communication. </div>

<div style="border-bottom: medium none; border-left: medium none; border-right: medium none; border-top: medium none;">
In addition to a rise in the use of Lemon Sorbet for 2013, Benjamin Moore predicts more use of pastels and lighter and brighter colors in lots of interior fashions elements, including paint, furniture, bedding, accessories, throw pillows and throws. In fact, Lemon Sorbet is an ideal transition color as we move from the more vibrant colors of the past to soft, light pastels. </div>

You’ll be seeing a lot of it soon, and you might just want to add some boysenberry accents to your home environment. </div>
<div style="border-bottom: medium none; border-left: medium none; border-right: medium none; border-top: medium none;">
Boysenberry is a purple shade, with a hint of red, and it looks as delicious as it sounds. Experts tell us that purple hues (like boysenberry) communicate good judgment, so it's probably a smart move to add some to your house this fall! </div>
<div style="border-bottom: medium none; border-left: medium none; border-right: medium none; border-top: medium none;">
<br /></div>
<div style="border-bottom: medium none; border-left: medium none; border-right: medium none; border-top: medium none;">
It’s also said that purple can provide peace of mind and a sense of calm. And, of course, purple is considered the color of royalty, so it exudes sophistication and luxury. </div>

<br /></div>
<div style="border-bottom: medium none; border-left: medium none; border-right: medium none; border-top: medium none;">
Even though boysenberry is bold, it can be the focal color in a room and not be overbearing. It’s also beautiful in combination with a variety of other hues. Best of all, it doesn’t clash with many colors. Try it:</div>

This is an excellent question and the answer has many different factors. <br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-U3XDdW08RWw/UJQtKbJz1cI/AAAAAAAAAeE/8jspBAHcqHo/s1600/silhouette_ultraglide_livingroom_1.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-U3XDdW08RWw/UJQtKbJz1cI/AAAAAAAAAeE/8jspBAHcqHo/s320/silhouette_ultraglide_livingroom_1.jpg" height="256" qea="true" width="320" /></a></div>
Window coverings is typically one of the last things to be thought about or installed in a home, and at that point, homeowners, especially clients who have just built a new house are at the end of the budget, and are mentally spent on making decisions. That's where we come in! If you are planning on building a new home, you could start off by setting up a budget meeting with a window covering specialist, such as ourselves, to educate you on the different options available in window coverings, and get a budget set up based on your likes, needs, and wants. <br />
<br />
There are quite a few things to consider when purchasing window treatments, and the more information you can get will help make the decision making experience a lot less painful. <br />
<br />
The average home buyer has been shown to spend approximately between 1-2% of the purchase price of a new home. Obviously this number is not written in stone, and can vary depending on a lot of things. Are you happy just having privacy and not concerned about style? Have you had the pleasure (or lack thereof) of spending hours cleaning faux wood blinds or worse paying good money to have cheap blinds repaired over and over again? Do you have the innate ability to walk into any type of store and automatically hone in on the most expensive item they carry? If you’ve answered yes to the above questions than it would be worth spending a few minutes doing a little basic homework before you decide what you want to live with.<br />
<br />
New home buyers should consider all the options before they purchase blinds or shades. Visit a store that has them all on display. Investigate the different types of products that are available and the lifting systems that are offered. Parents of small children and pet owners should definitely consider upgrading to a child-safe system that prevents accidental injury from cords. Most off-brand woods or faux wood blinds do not offer child-safe systems.<br />
<br />
Consider each room and it’s intended use. A bedroom facing east has much different light control needs than a northern facing laundry room. Is your new home a great room plan or does it also have a more formal entertaining space such as a living room? Are you going to be using that great room for viewing movies and TV or just catching the news while you prepare dinner. Again: different needs for different uses. Your window fashion professional should ask you lots of questions. It’s not that we’re the nosy sort it’s just that a true professional will want to know how you plan on using a room before they recommend which product will most fit your needs. <br />
<br />
Let’s revisit the budget question for just a moment. Most of us live in the real world. We all have to make choices on where we’re going to use the resources we have available. The numbers mentioned earlier are simply a ball park. In reality you’re going to want to take your time and select just the right products for you and your family. You may want to put up some temporary shades in the home and live with them for a short time while you get to know your new home and how the light comes and goes. No matter your budget you only want to purchase once and you should have the assurance that you’ll be totally satisfied with your product and your shopping experience. At Home Touch we’re one of a select few dealers that are allowed to offer the Hunter Douglas Right Choice Promise. This assures you that you may re-select if you’re not thrilled with your initial selection. If you’re dealing with a company that won’t give you that assurance: fire them!<br />
<br />
Last but certainly not least the products you put in your home are a reflection of your personal style and taste. Your selections should reflect that and enhance AND protect your privacy and furnishings. To enhance your home with beautiful granite in the kitchen only to cheapen it with cheaply made window fashions makes as much sense as shopping for your wedding dress at Ace Hardware. Some rooms will need more of a soft touch with draperies and valances or others may benefit from the beauty of shutters. Whatever your taste and style take the time to do your homework, get the facts and rely on a professional that offers a bricks & mortar store where you can make a really informed decision and know where to find them when you need them!<br />
<br />
Shopping for window coverings can be very overwhelming and scary if you don't have some guidance from a true professional. We want to make sure you get the RIGHT treatment for your needs, not just A treatment to get a quick sale. We will work with you in our showroom, and visit your home to really help you make an informed decision. We want happy customers for life, not just a quick sale. <br />

During the winter, I dream of my garden. As the days start to get a little longer and brighter, my dreaming turns to planning. And how I plan for my garden isn't really all that different from the process I go through as an interior designer when making decisions about how to bring out the beauty in a room. Let's take a look at what I mean.<br />
<br />
My new home has limited space, so planning is essential for garden success. The first thing I think about is <em>function</em>. This year I will be tearing out many trees and evergreens that were planted too close together or in the wrong spot. But what are the functions of those trees and shrubs? Well, privacy is one function. My house is adjacent to a busy street and a golf course, so I need privacy, and planting the right trees and shrubs can give me that. Those plantings can also provide shade, helping to keep my home cooler during the summer. <br />
<br />
Now let's consider the function of a window. Clearly privacy is important here, too. For some, privacy isn't an issue; for others, it's essential, not only for the room design but providing a sense of safety and security. As with my garden shrubs and trees, the right window coverings can also keep my home cooler in the summer and warmer in the winter. <br />
<br />
Now let's consider the question of location. For my garden, I have to take into account whether it faces north, south, east, or west. I have to know if it gets a lot of sun (six-plus hours or more) or very little. Or is it part sun/part shade or all shade? These factors are critical to the success of my plants. Too much sun for some tender plants, like the annual impatiens or perennial hostas, and they will burn and you will have wasted your money. Too little sun and those geraniums won't bloom; instead, they'll just wither. When tending plants, you must always understand the correct amount of sunlight each plant needs. <br />
<br />
The same sunlight considerations apply to your window coverings. That is, the more you understand what kind of light a room gets, the better you can plan for the right kind of window fashion to control that light, ensuring that your room reaches maximum beauty.<br />
<br />
For example, I have an east-facing master bedroom. If I want to sleep in some mornings, I need to have a product that protects me from that early morning sun. I also have a den that heats up with southwest light, so I want a product that optimally protects my room from that sun. Hunter Douglas has opacity ratings to tell you if you are looking at a sheer, semi-sheer, semi-opaque, or opaque. Remember a window covering might be beautiful, but if it doesn't fit the function of the window, you might be wasting your money.<br />
<br />
Next, let's think about color. I approach my garden palette design the same way I plan for the color of room interiors. I use three colors for visual interest. For my garden, I like to use purples, pinks, and whites. (With flowers, of course, there will always be green in the mix; and there will always be the soil's more neutral color. For the inside in my living room, I use three colors also. I have a metallic taupe, soft blue/greens, and browns. So, there is harmony! <br />
<br />
I have been a passionate gardener for years, and when those catalogs arrive in late winter, I scour over them and dog-ear many pages. I also surf online, searching for new or unusual plants and new varieties or colors. When you're shopping for window fashions, consider some of these great Hunter Douglas online resources:<br />
<br />
<ul>
<li>Continue browsing our website for news about our latest products and colors.</li>
<li>Visit the <a href="javascript:getiMagineLink()">iMagine™ Design Center</a> to help you visualize what products look like in different colors, styles and fabrics.</li>

</ul>
Along with my online research, I seek out specialists, people to help me with my garden planning. When it comes to window fashion expertise, I recommend you contact an authorized Hunter Douglas dealer—you can use our <a href="http://www.hunterdouglas.com/where-to-buy.jsp">Dealer Locator</a> to find one near you.<br />
<br />
The bottom line: Success doesn't just happen! It takes planning. Whether you want a beautiful garden or room interior, planning is a must. I hope I've guided you to resources to help you start your planning today. As for me, I'm off to the garden center<br />Your Window Treatment Specialistshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/09611759685876387233noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-89528861440855158.post-51208047501602019872012-05-22T11:42:00.000-06:002012-05-22T11:42:17.366-06:00Fresh Ideas for Your Home<b><span style="color: #79a32f; font-family: HelveticaNeue-Bold; font-size: x-large;"><span style="color: #79a32f; font-family: HelveticaNeue-Bold; font-size: x-large;"><span style="color: #79a32f; font-family: HelveticaNeue-Bold; font-size: x-large;"> <div align="left">

Mine is Ethnic Eclectic. Check it out to see what your style is. </h3><h3>Ethnic Eclectic</h3>Your style is a mix of bohemian chic and contemporary ethnic flair. Whether you travel extensively or shop locally, chances are good that your home is filled with a collection of interesting accessories. By contrast, a neutral color scheme and furniture with simple lines is the best backdrop to accentuate your most colorful pieces. To achieve this mix-and-match design style, look to nature. "The concern with the environment is playing a big role in interior design trends – from colors you find in nature, to high-end natural fibers in wall coverings, to exotic woods and stone being used throughout the home," says Denise Turner, an interior designer in Alta Loma, California. It's all about simple lines and natural materials as a backdrop for your collectables and artwork.<br />
<h3>Design Tips for <em>Ethnic Eclectic</em></h3>Contemporary and chic accessories go with any style. Dress up family-friendly comfort in the dining room with a sophisticated Murano glass light fixture that's out of the reach of little hands. Or, make the master bedroom your grown-up retreat with soothing colors from the garden and a wooden platform bed with a trendy upholstered headboardYour Window Treatment Specialistshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/09611759685876387233noreply@blogger.com0
